When wellbeing matters
Bio: Dr Campbell Thompson
Since 2008, I’ve been providing individual and group psychology services to clients from all walks of life and backgrounds across New Zealand and Australia.
A Doctor of Applied Psychology, I have 15 years' experience in mental health and mental performance across the sporting, corporate and performing arts worlds, as psychologist, coach, team consultant and training facilitator.
In individual psychology work, I help people from all backgrounds to identify and manage common mental health challenges, such as depression and anxiety, and to work through challenges and important decisions in relationships and working life. My goal is to help my clients to clarify personal purpose, to connect to strengths and identity, and to live and perform with impact and meaning.
As a consultant and facilitator, I support organisations and leaders to be the best they can be, and to set the conditions for teams to thrive and excel on the world’s biggest stages.
As a specialism, I have provided psychology services to elite and professional athletes and sports organisations over the last 15 years in New Zealand and internationally. I am currently lead psychologist for Athletics New Zealand, Richmond Tigers (Australian Football League) and Auckland Aces Cricket, and have served teams on the ground at Hockey World Cups 2014 & 2018, the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 ('21).
I trained via a B.Sc with honours in Experimental Psychology at University of Bristol and a Doctor of Applied Psychology at Victoria University, Melbourne, specialising in rehabilitation, sport and exercise. My doctoral thesis looked at the qualities that help people maintain health and performance in the face of life and work stress.
I draw on a number of psychology models, primarily 'third wave' mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies, especially Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
My practice includes teaching mindfulness meditation in high performance settings over the last 10 years, recently being certified as a Teacher from UCSD Medical School's Centre for Mindfulness, in the Mindful Performance Enhancement, Awareness & Knowledge (MPEAK) programme.
Other performance services include coaching and facilitation in a range of leadership development topics, including authentic leadership, presence, purpose, resilience and mental skills in corporate and public sectors.
Whatever your needs and background, I’ll work with you to create a bespoke approach and plan of action for yourself or your organisation. In any case I can't help you my job is to find you the best person who can. Get in touch to learn more.
